Is the HCG Diet Safe?
Start your diet in the right way - with research. The HCG diet is a comprehensively researched diet with very specific protocols. With that said, it's easy to follow and see success in a few days and results in about a month.
We follow this diet ourselves, and we've learned a few things by starting and stopping and restarting. Because of our success, we're asked many questions. Here is a round-up of our most recent questions which we hope you find helpful.
Is Eating Only 500 Calories on the HCG Diet Safe?
According to Dr. Simeons, HCG allows you to tap into your abnormal fat resources and RELEASES into your bloodstream all of the fats, calories, proteins, etc. that have been stored up. Therefore, your body is not getting only the 500 calories that you eat. It is getting the 500 calories you eat PLUS 1500-4000 calories (per Dr. Simeons) that the HCG releases from your abnormal fat stores. This is why you are generally not hungry and do typically have plenty of energy, especially after the first week!
Why did the FDA put a halt to marketing HCG back in 2011?
The FDA announced on Dec. 6, 2011 that homeopathic HCG should no longer be marketed. The reason the FDA gave for squelching the marketing of homeopathic HCG was not that people had been injured or harmed by the product. Their primary purpose was that some companies selling homeopathic HCG were making fraudulent claims, particularly on the internet, as far as the amount of weight that could be lost.
Specifically, seven companies were issued letters by the FDA demanding that they stop marketing/selling homeopathic HCG because of their exaggerated marketing efforts, i.e., claims of 2-3 pounds DAILY loss. We were NOT one of those companies. We do believe that Dr. Simeons’ HCG Protocol is both safe and effective, as we have been in the business since 2008, have experienced the protocol personally (after struggling with weight problems our entire lives) and have helped thousands of clients who had given up on other weight loss methods.
Is HCG FDA Approved?
Although the FDA approves HCG for fertility treatment for both men and women, the FDA has NOT approved HCG specifically for weight loss. We do NOT disagree with the FDA because HCG alone does NOT make you lose weight. It is ONLY when HCG is used diligently with Dr. Simeons’ HCG Diet Protocol that people see the fantastic typical weight loss of 20-30 lbs in 30-40 days.
Is it true that the HCG Diet only works if you do injections of HCG?
HCG can be administered in multiple ways, injections, sprays, creams, prescription sublingual drops (drops placed under the tongue), and homeopathic sublingual drops. We’ve used several of these forms and have worked with people who used these forms or others, and we’ve found that the method used to administer HCG doesn’t have a bearing on the effectiveness of the diet. As long as HCG gets in the system, and the person follows the specific eating and touching instructions prescribed by Dr. Simeons, the diet works!
Does the HCG Diet Cause Cancer?
Dr. Sheri Emma, a proponent of the HCG Diet Protocol, was asked if she thinks there could be a link between Cancer and the HCG Diet. She said that if someone has pre-existing cancer that is hormone reactive, then she does not recommend the HCG Diet.
According to Dr. Simeons, the original creator of the HCG diet, “a pregnant woman can produce as much as one million units per day.” For comparative purposes, most participants may take the equivalent of about 10,000 international units in an ENTIRE ROUND (up to 40 days) of the diet. Since HCG is not only present in extreme quantities during pregnancy but REQUIRED for any pregnancy to succeed, it seems that if there were any possibility of HCG causing cancer, this relationship would have been discovered long, long ago. However, everyone should always consult with their physician, especially in cases of cancer or any other serious illness, before participating in any diet and/or significant lifestyle change.
